THIS STREET BRINGS BACK FOND MEMORIES OF MY MANY WONDERFUL SATURDAY AFTERNOONS IN YOKOHAMA.
This street looks most familiar. Do you remember if there is, or ever was, a small coffee shop here. It was named, Wein. Coffee, French music and wine were the features for the romantic patrons who lingered and listened to the music.
Only steps away were bookshops where many English Penguin Brand books were sold. When I returned home to the USA, I was amazed at the number of books I had purchased. Many of the books that were written about Japan at that point in time were published by the Charles Tuttle Company. Through the years, I have acquired some fine collectible books about Japan, including a rare edition by Lafcadio Hearn.
Naturally, the port city of Yokohama looks totally different than it did when I was riding its street cars and walking wherever, but there are little corners of familiar spots that I recall with great fondness. You have captured some great photos and I thank you for sharing them with me and millions of others who browse the internet.

BUILDINGS by Maurice Utrillo 001
NOTE: There is a loose boot hanging over a shutter, as though it was pulled off in a hasty manner and flung or flitted from the foot from whence it came, landing atop the shutter. Perhaps, just perhaps, it was a signal to someone on the street below, a kind of secret sign that there was a scene that should not be disturbed, a sitting, if you will. I have searched his work for such a finished painting of an anxious lady and have yet to discover such a painting

TALK ABOUT COOL..............THE TEXT BELOW IS FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER WHO SHOT THIS PHOTO............
B. B. King, Elvis Presley, & Cybill Shepherd with Elvis' Pink Cadillac in Memphis, Tennessee
This is a photo that I took of an unique piece of artwork that I saw hanging in a touring office in Memphis, Tennessee. This fantasy image features three of Memphis' best known celebrities. On the left is B. B. King, in the middle is Cybill Shepherd, and on the right needs no introduction. The three of them are hanging out by Elvis' legendary pink Cadillac that he purchased from his mother. Cybill is the only one of the three actually born in Memphis. B. B. and Elvis were born in Mississippi but made their career breaks in Memphis. I thought that this was a pretty cool image.

THIS LOOKS VERY MUCH LIKE A RED BARN, THE TYPE SO FREQUENTLY SEEN THROUGHOUT THE MIDWEST OF THE USA. OF COURSE, IT ISN'T, BUT THAT SOME BUILDINGS REMAIN UNIVERSAL IN THEIR APPEARANCE MAKES THIS WORLD A BIT SMALLER. OUT OF INDIA...A BUILDING THAT REMINDS ME OF MY MISSOURI HOMELAND. ONE FANTASTIC WATERCOLOR PAINTING BY VIJAY KAKDE. VIJAY IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE WATERCOLOR ARTISTS.

Sketch 2
VIJAY KAKDE usually paints in watercolor, but as we know, most artists do preliminary sketches for their projected larger works. This sketch stands alone. It might have a companion piece, but it won't matter. Oh it would be nice, admittedly, for her to have a male counterpart. The perfect couple. Check out his photostream gallery for new work. Editor

L, THIS IS A PRECIOUS PHOTO. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY PHOTOS YOU HAVE THAT DESERVES SOME SPECIAL ATTENTION. WERE YOU A PHOTOGRAPHER BEFORE YOU JOINED THE USAF BACK IN THE 50? MANY OF YOUR PHOTOS WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT FOR LIFE AND LOOK MAGAZINES. BUT OF COURSE, THEY ARE ALL STILL MASTERPIECES AND THE OLDER THEY GET, THE MORE THEY BECOME A PART OF OUR HISTORY OF THE ARMED FORCES IN THE ORIENT.

SOMETIME FAR FROM NOW By R.L.Huffstutter

WAS
A TIME
WHEN
I WAS LEFT
ALMOST
BREATHLESS

I once wandered through
streets where Jesus bade me to stay
and dine, where others who were
transients like me, wondering
about life's meaning, remained long
after I left the shadows and
returned to the sunshine.
There was no guaranteed certificate or membership where I found warmth and light,
the living waters from the deep blessed my mind and soul, kept me safe, kept my sanity
through times of peril and times of strife. It was a walk along the beach where I found
the wisdom sealed within my heart and mind from times I can't recall but will remember
on some faraway beach sometime far from now.

Japanese Bridge
ParisEpat Photo of Claude Monet's Japanese Bridge
Claude Monet's Japanese Bridge at his gardens in Giverny, which he painted over and over.
They say the gardens in Giverny are so interesting because Monet designed and built them himself - including diverting a river to make the water lilly pond which you see here. So in this way, Monet created his art TWICE - once as the gardener, and then once again when he painted his creations.
Monet was a collector of various plant and flower species - apparently the nearby inhabitants were upset about the pond being built because they thought all his "strange plants" would poison the water.
The gardens are a truly beautiful piece of changing, living art. Every few weeks there are entirely different types of flowers blooming and other plants in various stages of growth. It has become rather run down in the past, but like his house it is now restored to how Monet had it, they tell us.
